Fresh: Art Fair is delighted to partner with Bonhams Auctioneers for the sixth year in a row at this week’s Cheltenham Fair.
The Bonhams team will be present in the foyer at Fresh: Art Fair from this evening onwards. Bringing in Bonhams expertise to the fair was the part of the original concept for Fresh: Art Fair by father and daughter team Anthony & Ellie Wardle, Fresh: founders. The idea was to offer something extra at Fresh: Fairs – and a first for any Art Fair. This felt like a natural match. The result has been very worthwhile – Fair visitors who might be thinking of moving on older artworks – including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, objects d’art, jewellery (and more) are invited to chat with Bonhams representatives about the history and value of their possessions.
Smaller, more portable items can be viewed at the Bonhams stand in the entrance to the fair, whereas larger paintings, sculptures etc are better represented by photographs for initial assesment.
We spoke to Emma Sykes, Bonhams Regional Manager for the West of England and Picture Specialist for the South West of England. She said:
“We have attended every Fresh fair at Cheltenham since it started in 2017. Our specialists will be available at Fresh: Cheltenham 2023 to offer free valuations on any ‘old’ art that visitors may wish to move on. Categories that we specialise in include (but are not limited to) post-war British and Irish Art, 19th century Art, Old Masters, prints, sculpture and studio ceramics.
We are very happy to provide valuations from photographs if items are too heavy or numerous to bring along. Visitors are also very welcome to just come over and say hello and find out more about the auction world and receive a complimentary copy of the Bonhams magazine.“
Tips when bringing along images of your older artworks & antiques:
- Ensure that you get a full, crisp shot of the item from the front.
- Take a second, clear photograph of the artist’s signature if there is one.
- Make sure the back of the item is well photographed including any labels from previous sales.
- Measure the item, with and without the frame if it is a painting, with and without plinth if it is a sculpture.
- Bring along or photograph any documentation associated with the piece.
