Creativity for Good: Create Joins Fresh: Art Fair at Alexandra Palace

We are delighted to welcome Create to Fresh: Art fair this year as the official Charity Partner at Alexandra Palace.

Create is a multi-award-winning charity empowering lives, reducing isolation and enhancing wellbeing through the creative arts. Create provides free creative experiences for those who need it most, working with professional artists and community partners to bring creativity directly to people. We can’t wait for them to join us at the fair and hear more about the positive way they harness the power of creativity for good.

Create believes that creativity should be accessible to everyone – especially those who face challenges in their lives. Their creative arts workshops bring professional artists into community settings, creating welcoming, supportive spaces where people can explore creativity, connect with others and take time for themselves.

One of the many groups Create works with is adult carers, who often put their own needs last while supporting loved ones. Through Create’s projects carers are offered a rare opportunity for respite – time to focus on their own wellbeing through the arts.

Sophia (85) took part in a Create printmaking project in the City of London. She cares for her husband, who is now receiving end-of-life care. Trying new artforms gave her a moment of calm and connection:

“I can be distracted by losing myself in creativity,” she shared. “Creativity, music, having friends – it forms a package for your reason to be alive.”

In Tower Hamlets, Priya (60) joined a Create papercraft project alongside other carers while supporting her mother and raising her children. For her, the sessions offered both relaxation and a renewed sense of confidence:

“Knowing that I can achieve something is very rewarding and boosts your confidence.” She said, “Having time for myself has been very good. [The project] has been very relaxing and you let your imagination run wild.”

Create’s work shows that creativity can be more than just an activity – it builds confidence, wellbeing and connection. For people who don’t often have the chance to give time to themselves, these moments can be vital.

Create will be with us throughout the fair, do pop along and say hello and find out more about them and the work they do.
